Core Activities

Core Activities Of Shri Mumbai Jivdaya Mandli

Our Objectives: Protection To Animals, Education for Vegetarian Lifestyle, Discontinue Cruel Ceremonies and Humane Welfare

“Daya” is the quality of HUMAN

League is engaged in various activities of animal welfare, mainly saving their lives from slaughter house. Slaughtering of cow, buffalo, ox and calf are restricted in the state of Maharashtra, but under one or another banner still they are slaughtered.

Every year thousand of animals are thus rescued by league from slaughter house and transport them safely to animal shelters for the rest of their life. The animals rescued from slaughter house are not in normal conditions of living. Either they are tortured badly or make sick - look sick so that one can send them easily to slaughter house.

At animal shelter house they are individually taken care of, including medical treatment. Treating them with good food and medical treatment, slowly and gradually they become fit and live normal life.

These normal living animals are donated to blind homes, handicapped centers, leprosy centers and economically weak farmers for milk and agricultural purpose.

Our focus of activity at two places :

(1) Mumbai Branch
(2) Ahmedabad Branch

MUMABI BRANCH

“PASHU AASHRAY” ANIMAL SHELTER

The first Pashu Aashray (Animal Shelter) was built way back in the year 1982 at Bhalivali on Mumbai-Ahmedabad national highway near Bombay. The land was donated by Shri Jagmohandas Pratap family in his loving memory. The secretary Shri Dashrathbhai Thakar being member of Animal welfare board avail the grant to built Pashu aashray and it was inaugurated by Padmashree Smt. Rukminidevi Arundale Chairperson of Animal welfare board of India.

In the process of time, activity was very well developed and the need for second Pashu Aashray arise. In 1991 it was fulfilled at Shakvar Pashu Aashray, acquiring six acre land at Shakvar, nearly five km. from Bhalivali Aashray. The land & construction was donated by Binaben Popatlal Kapadia our past executive committee member in loving memory of Shri Navinchandra Popatlal Kapadia.

At both these aashrays nearly 1500 animals are taken care of regularly. At animal welfare clinic, free of cost service is provided to animals of nearby villages.

AHMEDABAD BRANCH

At present every year nearly 10,000 cattle are given ABHAY (fear free life) at Ahmedabad by Shri Mumbai Jeevdaya Mandli. The cattle captured by Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation on the road, were kept for 72 hours and if the owner of the cattle does not appear the cattle were auctioned and usually slaughter house traders buy the cattle and send it to slaughter house. The system was changed by the Mumbai Jeevdaya Mandli and now we buy these cattle on an average 1000 lives per month and send them to different Panjarapole of Gujarat. We bear the transport charges and one month food charges for every cattle. This activity started in the year 2001 and continues till today March, 2015.

Over and above this regular activity we are keenly involved for The Right to Information Act-2005. Under this banner we have asked information from the government department of Gujarat State. On an average nearly 3000 information letters were sent to the different government departments of State that they should give information about our rights of Jeevdaya and under the existing law what is the position, status and implementation of the law. With this information we send notice to the concerned department to take action and implement the law. The results were astonishing. Many of the law, rules and regulations were never implemented and even the government authorities were unware about it. In case of necessities we have filed petition in the court of law at city level and in High court of Gujarat too.
